40 km off the coast of Brisbane, Moreton Island was our next destination. As an island full of sand, Moreton Island is suitable for walking, hiking, 4WD-ing, sunbathing, sand toboggan, etc. The water is suitable for swimming, surfing, snorkeling and diving.
We booked a day trip to Moreton Island focusing on Tangalooma Wreck. Tangalooma Wreck was created in 1963 when the boat owners deliberately sank their boats and barges to create a safe mooring area. Since then, marine ecosystem has been developing there and it has become quite a famous place to snorkel and dive.
Besides snorkeling in Tangalooma Wreck, the highlight of our trip was supposed to be dolphin spotting. However, we were quite unlucky we did not spot any.
The trip cost us AUD 149 (~SGD 155) per person including lunch and return transfer to Gold Coast. However, we were required to pay additional AUD 20 (~SGD 21) for the rental of snorkeling equipment.

The boat stopped before lunch to give us 30 to 40 minutes to swim around. We went down but the wave was quite rough and there was not much to see. It's just sea. After that, we were called for lunch and the boat moved once again.

The boat then stopped around Tangalooma Wreck and it's time for our snorkelling. All the equipment were in great condition. We were warned not to stand on the wreck or touch it. First, the wreck might cut. Second, the marine ecosystem might get disturbed. So, while enjoying the place, we should be responsible tourists.

It's an enjoyable one day trip. Although not as pretty as I have imagined, I quite liked it. One thing I like the most, the crew. They were so accommodating and friendly. And when we were down in the water, they really did their job well to protect us: one at the boat with binoculars, one with inflatable boat circling around, one with jetski moving around, a few down in the water with extra noodles. I really felt safe, as compared to the experience snorkelling in Indonesia or Thailand.
